Frequently Asked Questions
An IEC is a skilled professional who guides students and families through the process of finding, selecting, and applying to a college, school, or program that is a good personal match: one that will foster the student's academic, emotional, and social growth. You can learn more in the Student & Parent Information section of our website.
Selecting an IEC is a personal decision and we cannot recommend a specific one for you. However, all members listed in the directory have gone through our rigorous application process and demonstrated their expertise, experience, and commitment to the highest standards in education, training, and ethics. We recommend that you use our Find an Independent Educational Consultant directory, visit the websites of several IECA members that meet your criteria, and contact the individuals that most closely align with your priorities.
Our Find an IEC search page provides a few broad categories to start your search for an IEC: name/keyword, consulting area, and/or location. You may choose to enter information into one or more of these search fields. Alternatively, you can click “Submit” at the bottom of the blue box to see our full directory of IECA Professional members on the Find an IEC results page, and then filter results using the additional options in the left column.
The search used in the Find an IEC directory is a radius search. It uses the location you search as a pinpoint on a map and then produces results based on the radius you’ve set to show which IECs are within that radius. In the case of a city or state search without a specific address, it uses a point in the center of that location. To search an entire state on the Find an IEC search page, enter the state name in the Location field and select “250 mi” from the radius drop-down menu.
On the Find an IEC results page, you will see the additional option to select a specific state from the drop-down menu in the left column.
Note, however, that many of our member consultants meet with clients virtually. If you are comfortable meeting with an IEC virtually, see the “I’m Looking for Someone to Work” filter at the left on the Find an IEC results page and select “Both In Person and Online.”
You must be a current IECA Professional member to be listed in the public Find an IEC directory. Please visit our Join IECA page to learn more and apply today!
