Atlanta Area IECA Members form Regional Group
by Rosemary Tippett, IECA Outreach Coordinator
Atlanta area IECA members met for an informal lunch at the Vinings Club in Atlanta on March 23, where they all enjoyed a delicious lunch and a view of the Atlanta skyline. The gathering was quickly met with great enthusiasm. Twenty-six IECA Professional and Associate members from the greater Atlanta area and surrounding areas as far as Columbus, Georgia received invitations and 20 attended.
Members divided up at small lunch tables to join fellow members they had never met to put faces with names and discuss practice areas. The lunch was followed by a brief group meeting to initiate the regional gathering with a list of topics to be discussed at upcoming quarterly meetings. Some of these topics included case study groups for collaboration, business / career discussions, support for particular specialty areas, social media education, and collaboration on educating the general public—especially the local public on IECs. Several Atlanta members volunteered to host the next few meetings.
The group also recognized the need for volunteers to help plan the IECA Annual Conference to be held in Atlanta in November 2012. Many ideas for local speakers and off-site meeting areas were discussed.
I think we can joyfully report IECA has another Regional Group off the ground and ready to go!
Well done Atlanta area IECA members!
