Saluting IECA Member Experts Presenting At NACAC

Mark Sklarow

by Mark H. Sklarow, Executive Director, Independent Educational Consultants Association

From the NACAC Conference in St. Louis

The annual conference of the National Association for College Admission Counseling gets started today following a day of pre-conference seminars and campus tours. The kick-off event for several hundred is the IECA Member/College Admission Officials annual luncheon.

IECA members will be seen and heard in sessions throughout the conference as panelists and presenters.

On Friday, Steven Goodman (DC) will be part of a panel presenting on the Developing Brain of Teenagers and the impact on the college admission process.  Betsy Woolf (NY) will be a panelist for a presentation on students living abroad and their college search. David Allen (Associate, Scotland) will present on serving,  recruiting, and understanding Muslim students.

On Saturday, Steve Antonoff (CO) will be presenting a session explaining the certification process for Certified Educational Planners, and Sarai Koo (Associate, CA) will be part of a panel on serving the needs of Asian students who do not ‘fit the mold.’

Earlier Steve Antonoff, joined by Charlotte Klaar (MD) and IECA Deputy Executive Director Sue DePra joined me in leading a full-day training “Transitioning to Private Practice Educational Consulting.”

I look forward to sharing updates about NACAC for those who are unable to attend through IECA’s Facebook page, my LinkedIn account and through tweets from sessions, our lunch, and the exhibit hall.

    Mark,

You, Dodge and Judy served as outstanding representatives of IECA to the packed room of consultants and college admissions professionals at the IECA luncheon today. If the reactions of those at my table (off in the side room due to an overwhelming crowd) are any indication, your remarks were both well timed and well received; and I believe helped colleges realize the importance of continuing to forge working relationships with us — not for personal gain but for the benefit of the students we work with. Being at the luncheon reinforced my belief in what we are doing and why (especially at such an overwhelmingly busy time of year) and was a great way to kick off attending the NACAC conference.

Thank you Emily, it is easy to get passionate, because I believe so deeply in the work of our members. Thanks to you & Marilyn for your hard work in setting up!
