First Days of Registration Suggests a Big Crowd for Charlotte
by Mark Sklarow, IECA Executive Director
On Saturday we opened conference registration just for IECA Members (others will follow shortly) and other educational consultants. It is the earliest we’ve ever opened registration, and by starting on a weekend we anticipated a dozen or so registrants, enough to assure us that the web-based system was working properly. Instead, more than 80 signed up that first weekend, marking our busiest-ever start and suggesting a great turnout for our 2009 Fall Conference. Such a start is reassuring to schools, therapeutic programs, colleges, exhibitors and sponsors that their commitment of time, energy and finances will be well spent. This is particularly true as a number of new conferences initiatives will be launched designed to increase the return on investment.
We were also thrilled to see a great response among these early registrants to the pre-conference events—with almost every single attendee, so far, choosing to participate in campus tours, pre-conference workshops or the speed-meetings. It’s good to know that our excitement about the speed meetings is being proven well placed by the registrations.
Another clear success is the response to our first-ever “Master Class” on adolescent brain theory with Jeff Georgi of Duke University.
We’ll continue to provide updates, so that those thinking about our Fall Conference can plan well.

I wanted to provide an update as we enter our fifth day of conference registration. We are now approaching 250 registrants with more than 100 educational consultants. Our college tours are filling quickly and the Saturday morning master class with Jeff Georgi is as well.
