    Why IECA?

I can’t wear it, I can’t eat it, and I can’t live in it, but nevertheless, even in these tough times my Professional membership in IECA is important to me.

I joined IECA because the standards upheld by its members strengthen the educational counseling profession. IECA furthers the profession of educational consulting through its code of ethics and its membership guidelines. As IECA continues to grow, the organization continues to require that its members are qualified to work with students, families and other professionals.

I joined IECA for the recognition it provides. IECA is highly regarded by professionals in the field of education, including college admission officers and education journalists, as well as by knowledgeable parents. Having my name in the IECA directory, both online and in print, has proven to be very helpful.

I joined IECA to network with colleagues. Until recently, I was a solo practitioner; my membership in IECA has provided me with an opportunity to interact with colleagues on a regular basis through the listserv, at conferences and on college tours. Even on college tours not sponsored by IECA I usually find at least one other IECA member participating. My IECA colleagues are there to act as sounding boards for my thoughts, to exchange ideas, to provide information and to give encouragement and support. I am able to share best practices and to learn about new products and services. I am glad to be part of a group of practitioners that actively seeks to expand their knowledge and develop new skills. In the past six years, I have established a number of relationships, and I have made many friends.
